In brief

A moated manor house in Warwickshire. The manor was purchased in the 15th century by John Brome, and it passed to his descendants, until it was inherited by the Ferrers family in the early 16th century on a marriage between the daughter of Nicholas Brome and Sir Edward Ferrers. The estate remained in the family until the last descendant sold it to the National Trust in 1980.

Baddesley Clinton - history

The Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument that is Baddesley Clinton was built in the late 15th century. In 1438 the manor was purchased by John Brome, who was the Under-Treasurer of England. It passed to his son Nicholas Brome (who died in 1517). He had the nearby Parish Church of St Michael rebuilt. The house in this period had a draw bridge and gun-ports. When Nicholas died in 1517, the estate was inherited by his daughter. She married (in 1500) Sir Edward Ferrers, who was the Sheriff of Warwickshire. The house remained in the Ferrers family until 1940, when it was purchased by Thomas Walker (a relative of the family) who changed his named to Ferrers. His son inherited the estate in 1970, and he sold it to the National Trust in 1980, who now manages it.
