History of Old Yardley Park

The old village in Yardley is surrounded by St Edburgha's Church that dates back to the 13th Century. The Old Grammar School that is next to the park dates back to the 15th Century, but might have been a school on this site since the 13th Century.

Old Yardley Park was laid out in 1898. Almshouses were built nearby on School Lane in 1904. There is a medieval moat here called Rents Moat. The Yardley Great Trust gave land in 1900 between Church Road and Queens Road for the public park to be used as Old Yardley Park. It is a short walk away from Blakesley Hall. The gardens near the Old Grammar School were restored during 2012, this including laying out a Rose Garden and Herbaceous Border.
