The Construction of 103 Colmore Row - July 2020

103 Colmore Row is so close to structural completion now with one of the last beams being installed on 17th July. Here are various views of 103 Colmore Row in July 2020. Did you know that it is in direct line of sight of Castle Bromwich Hall? Ellliott has returned to the City Centre for the first time in over 100 days of lockdown and has got some close up views while in town.

Birmingham, Chamberlain Square is Close to Re-Opening

It looks as if Chamberlain Square in the very heart of the city is soon to re-open and will once again become a primary destination for Brummies and visitors alike. It does look familiar and at least one of the statues, Thomas Attwood, is being reinstalled. 8 of the latest photos in this post plus a look back at the square before the redevelopment, seems so long ago now, we can't wait!

The Construction of 103 Colmore Row - Late June 2020

103 Colmore Row claims to be 'Above all else', well it pretty much is now as it's on the top of the ridge above the Rea Valley where the city centre drops down towards Digbeth and Southside. The building is very close to structural top out and the cladding is being glimpsed from much further away now. Loads of photos in this post from our regular contributors...

Experimental macro photography during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown

Stuck indoors during the 2020 Coronavirus lockdown? I decided to try out some macro photography using a laser pointer and a piece of quartz rock crystal, I created these sci-fi looking scenes, a little spooky too! Maybe it's a bit of inspiration for others, I reckon a phone camera could produce some good results too.  Give it a go!

Pitch Creative - "Full Colour No Fear" Photography Lightbox

This pitch post explains the product 'Full Colour No Fear' Photo Lightbox and its application in numerous interactive settings which could include galleries, schools. offices and public spaces.  It is an excellent interactive and user-friedly friendy product with many applications.

Dan has created a prototype and is now looking for investors to take to market.

Related

I have always loved the look of 35mm slides (positives) when viewed on a light-box. My photography is digital now but I don't like the fact that none of it actually exists in real life, I want to see my photos printed, large and with full colour! I am developing an idea for presenting my photos on very large (A1 size) backlit panels, with the image printed onto something transparent and mounted in large frames. The 'Lightbox' will have a chargable battery installed with a winder handle (like a camping light or torch).

I am seeking collaboration and/or advice on several elements of the production development:

The lightbox itself including the frame, the diffusser panel, the LED matrix and the power/charger system.

The transparent material to print on.

The ink used.

The product will be branded as 'Full Colour No Fear'

The prototype uses an existing lightbox to power the application.  The 'Full Light No Fear' product will use a greener sustainable alternative that will incorporate manually rechargeble battery operated and not reliant on 'plugged in' electricity to power.

Below are some images from the development phase using commercially available A4 light pad (used for drawing/tracing) and clear plastic used for overhead projectors, show both with the backlight off and on.

Constructon of Symphony Hall - February 2020 update

Stephen and Dan have been watching and have documented the development every step of the way. See their February 2020 update here.

HOW SYMPHONY HALL WILL LOOK ONCE FINISHED

The development will provide a state-of-the-art performance space to host
free and affordable events, improved bars, cafes, seating and hospitality experiences.

It will also become home for Symphony Hall's Learning and Participation programme, which will include spaces for teaching, performance, and rehearsals. The Box Office and welcome desk will also be relocated to a much more prominent position.

The new look will provide Symphony Hall with a curved sweep of the façade, centred on the Hall of Memory across the square. Two new entrances will be created, both providing quick and direct access from Centenary Square.
